Are you living in the dark?

Does your living space have bad lighting, facing north and feels dark and lifeless. Here are my suggestions on how you can brighten it up.

Consider the layout of your home. Which rooms do you live in most and consider if you could change the layout of your home to take advantage of a sunny window for reading or eating. A study or TV area used mostly at night could be relocated to one of the darker north facing rooms of your home.

Next the floor takes if you have dark flooring it may look elegant but it will make your room seems smaller and will absorb the light rather than reflexing it, bright flooring will make your space look bigger and more inviting. If changing the floor is not an option consider using a bright neutral rug.     interior designers cork, dark room how to make it bright

Mirrors are a must. A large mirror opposite a window, or anywhere in a dark room, will really enhance and reflect all the available light. Mirrored wardrobes can work really well as modern cupboards in hallways, living and dining rooms. You should also position lamps or candles in front of mirrors.

When choosing furniture, fixtures and flooring for your room, think glossy and think pale. Also shiny/ bright surfaces will reflect any available light around the room.

Good lighting will make your home feel spacious, clean and welcoming. Feature lighting gives texture, focus and shape to general lighting, adding depth and shade, with shadows in some corners and pools of light in others. It’s formed by a mixture of halogen spotlights, down lighters, up lighters, tracks and table lamps
